10-Day Cultural and Roots Program in Senegal and The Gambia
Day One
Arrival at the international airport of Dakar/Sénégal, West Africa. Assistance through customs and transfer to your hotel down-town(Sofitel Teranga or similar). After you check-in and get settled, meet with your guide for your orientation. In the afternoon, you are going on the city tour of Dakar for sightseeing and cultural immersion.
Day Two
This morning, embark on a pilgrimage to the historical island of Gorée , site of three centuries of slavery. There, the curator of the infamous slaves house will trace back black slave trade as it happened in the Motherland.
Day Three
After breakfast, leave your hotel for a journey to the phenomenal pink lake. A tour around the lake by 4x4 Jeep will take you to the salt miners and to a Fulani tribal village to experience true African life style first hand.
Day Four
Early departure for a road trip to the Gambia. Stop en route to visit different villages. Afternoon, relaxation and leisure at your hotel and resort.
Day Five
Full day tour of the city of Banjul, capital of the Gambia and its outskirts. Visit Katchkaly, the crocodile pool, Mama Tie 'n Dye factory with amazing prices and a remarkable orphanage.
Day Six
Take a cruise on the Kamby Bolong (Gambia river) to visit Juffureh, the ancestral village of Alex Haley, author of the international bestseller, Roots. Visit Albreda on St James where Kunta Kinteh was imprisoned before being transferred to America.
Day Seven
After breakfast, leave the hotel to drive back to the beautiful resort area of Saly in the Gambia. Stop en route and visit village markets.
Day Eight
After breakfast, go on a safari to the animal reserve of Bandia where you will giraffe, monekys, rhinoceros, ostirch and other wild life. See the elephant baobab tree and the remarkable baobab cemetery — a tree in which generations of tribal storytellers were laid to rest.
Day Nine
Discover the holy city of Tuba where we find not only the largest mosque in West Africa but also the great achievement of a black spiritual leader guided by only his faith and devotion to God.
Day Ten
Free day for your relaxation and last minute shopping. Farewell dinner and late night transfer to the airport. (B. B. D)
